The American Left's adherence to woke ideology and their insistence on pushing racially charged narratives even when they fly in the face of statistical fact has not only provided China with copious amounts of cannon fodder but is also quickly rendering Washington woefully under-prepared for a potential military conflict with Beijing.
When Secretary of State Antony Blinken and National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan met with senior foreign policy official, Yang Jiechi, and foreign minister Wang Yi in Alaska last month, it should have come as little surprise to anyone that Yang was so quick to rebuke Blinken's criticism of the alleged genocide in Xinjiang with an attack aimed at America's own perceived human rights failures. After all, when Yang boldly quipped that black American's were being 'slaughtered' he was doing little more than echoing Democratic Party talking points. Furthermore Yang's quote which proclaimed “We hope that United States will do better on human rights. The fact is that there are many problems within the United States regarding human rights, which is admitted by the US itself,” might as well have been considered a free preview of the comments made by President Biden's new UN ambassador, Linda Thomas-Greenfield, during her April 15 interview with Reverend Al Sharpton's National Action Network. During the interview Thomas-Greenfield remarked that “the original sin of slavery weaved white supremacy into our founding documents and principles.”
Sentiments like these when expressed by high ranking officials like Thomas-Greenfield, and even President Biden himself, seriously undercut any moral authority that our leading diplomats like Blinken and Sullivan so desperately need when engaging in dialogue with their Chinese counterparts. If according to those in the Thomas-Greenfield camp the U.S. truly is built on the foundations of racism and white supremacy, and moreover if our legal and justice systems are still wrought with the same vestiges, what right then would Washington have to level any criticism at China for their own transgressions? What makes America's so-called liberal-democratic values worth espousing in the first place?
Perhaps even more serious than this transparently anti-American rhetoric is the infection of the U.S. military with new "woke" ideology. While the examples here are plentiful few are more telling than the U.S. Navy's 2021 reading list which now includes Ibram X. Kendi's "“How to be an Antiracist." In this book the critical race theorist remarks on the 'inherent' racism of nearly every aspect of American life from public health to capitalism, but in short Kendi's thesis is that when discrimination achieves equity it is good, but when it perpetuates inequity, it is bad, as evidenced from the following passage.
"The only remedy to racist discrimination is antiracist discrimination. The only remedy to past discrimination is present discrimination. The only remedy to present discrimination is future discrimination."
This sentiment flies directly in the face of the meritocratic values that have made the U.S. Military the most lethal fighting force that the world has ever seen.
Another controversy arose early last month when President Biden remarked on the increasing diversity of the U.S. military and how the Pentagon was working on developing new woman-friendly combat uniforms and maternity flight suits, among other female focused policies. When Fox News Host Tucker Carlson subsequently accused the president of making a mockery out of the military, he was hit with swift backlash from the military community including U.S. Marine Corps Master Gunnery Sergeant Scott H. Stalker who used U.S. Space Command's official Twitter account to berate Carlson for criticizing Biden's rhetoric, going so far as to insinuate that someone who has not served has no right to comment on military affairs. The over-dramatic reaction to Carlson's take that the military should be focused winning at all costs as opposed to some ill-founded pursuit of gender equity only demonstrates that the military too is in danger of falling prey to the PC machine.
Meanwhile, as the U.S. barrels headfirst into the wasteland of political correctness with little to no regard for the foreign policy consequences such moves may entail, China is hell bent on creating a more nationalistic and competitive populace.
According to Tsukasa Hadano at Nikkei Asia, as of April 1 Chinese authorities have ordered the removal of material that promotes Western ideology from primary and secondary school, for the purpose of fostering patriotism and promoting what Beijing calls "Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era."
In a separate but like-minded move this past December the Chinese education ministry issued a new set of guidelines aimed at masculinizing young men who Si Zefu, a delegate of China's top advisory board, described as "weak, timid, and self-abasing."
Undergirding each policy move by China is of course the ever-increasing likelihood of a serious confrontation with the U.S. occurring in the near to medium future. This conflict could come to fruition thanks to various flashpoints, including territorial claims that China shares with ASEAN nations in the South China sea and staunch U.S. ally Japan over the Senkaku Islands, or perhaps over North Korea. However the mostly likely culprit is the increasingly tense Taiwan situation.
Although China considers Taiwan a breakaway province which it must reunify to complete the "Chinese Dream," by all accounts, including Taiwanese public opinion, the island is a self-governing nation. And although Washington has employed various strategies to maintain peace in the Taiwan strait, including strategic ambiguity, recent moves by the previous Trump administration including massive weapons sales as well as bi-partisan passage of pro-Taiwan bills in Congress, including the Taiwan Allies International Protection and Enhancement Initiative Act (TAIPEI Act) and the Taiwan Assurance Act, indicate a shift away from ambiguity firmly towards a strengthened relationship with between Washington and Taipei.
Taken in conjuncture with Beijing's growing frequency of incursions into the Taiwan strait and Chairman Xi's increasingly hostile tone when speaking about reunification, the possibility of war should be taken much more seriously than some throwaway line that conservative pundits use to criticize the Biden administration when they want to attack him for being soft on China.
What China seems to understand, that the U.S. fails to, is this type of conflict will be won by a nation that respects its own principles and has a fighting force that is not only capable, but willing to sacrifice for the nation's core values. This is certainly not to elevate the Chinese political system which thrives on censorship, surveillance, and crackdowns on personal liberty, and which allows for the forced subjugation of an entire ethnic minority. These practices are abhorrent, obviously. However while China is preparing for the very real possibility of a massive conflict, the American Left is propagandizing U.S. citizens to hate their own country. While China is tirelessly plotting to overthrow the U.S. as the global leader, top American officials and the media are focused on convincing everyone that the police hate black people, that the constitution is soaked in racist ideology, and that diversity is what makes a great military.
Of course, America should hold itself to a higher standard than China, and there are certainly aspects of American life that need to be handled with absolute condemnation. Namely the recent spate of violence against Asian Americans which has no place in American society. We can all agree on this. But when America's top officials and media continue ad nauseam in perpetuating the notion that America itself is nothing more than a racist institution built on power hierarchies, why would anyone want to sacrifice for such a nation. Moreover, why would anyone feel the need to preserve the American value system half a world away on a small island in the Pacific Ocean?
Credit should be given to Mr. Blinken for standing up to the Chinese delegation in Alaska, and to the Biden administration for continuing to pressure Beijing and pursue closer ties with Taipei. However, unless President Biden, his cabinet, and his media lackeys decide to stop pushing critical theory backed rhetoric at the expenses of actual improvement of American institutions, especially our common culture, American power will continue to fade, further encouraging China to make bold moves in the Indo-Pacific and challenge the liberal world order. If those in the houses of power fail to abandon their childish cram down of political correctness, China will continue to take advantage of our domestic fraying.
To paraphrase Army Ranger Tim Kennedy, China does not care about our feelings, they care about winning. In our current trajectory we are destined to lose.
Literally the stupidest thing ever written.
